Chinese Designs Stained Glass Coloring Book (Dover Publications, Inc.) inside cover:

"Infused with a sense of representing the wholeness of things, Chinese artwork is never simply meaningless ornamentation. Using exquisite combinations of flowers, birds, animals, symmetrical designs, and symbols, it has long been recognized worldwide for it's delicate lines, enduring beauty, grace and harmonious composition."

Oh, and you also need a writer. Birds are animals.

  1. I deleted my previous excerpt because my mother insisted that "goodie" is a word (it's in the dictionary, evidently). She also wanted me to know that birds have been highlighted in the above statement because they are an especially significant animal in Chinese artwork. I still think it's poorly written, but once again, perhaps an "in the eye of the beholder" thing.
